Housing support for students

An overview of national and European support schemes and how to apply.

APL housing benefits and the CAF

In France, personalised housing benefits (APL) are paid by the CAF, subject to income and housing-type conditions. CROUS residences are generally eligible. Use the official CAF eligibility simulator before preparing your application.

Scholarships and mobility

  • Means-tested scholarships managed by the CROUS in your academic region.
  • Mobility support (for example, through Erasmus+).
  • Local schemes offered by cities and regions, which may sometimes be combined.

Good practices

  • Apply as soon as possible: backdated benefit payments are limited.
  • Keep all supporting documents (lease, rent receipts and proof of enrolment).
  • Check whether APL, scholarships and regional support can be combined.

Always check the official CAF and CROUS websites for current amounts and conditions.

Nidora lists CROUS student residences from the official open dataset published on data.gouv.fr. We handle neither booking nor payment: every application is made on the official CROUS website.
