Prepare a strong rental application
Documents to prepare and mistakes to avoid when applying to a landlord.
Essential documents
- A valid identity document (or a passport for international students).
- A student certificate or proof of enrolment from your institution.
- Proof of financial resources: a scholarship, income, or a letter confirming parental support.
- Your guarantor's contact details and supporting documents (see the guarantor guide).
- Bank account details with a European IBAN to set up payments.
Present a clear application
A complete, clearly named PDF application can greatly improve your chances. Combine your documents into one organised, up-to-date file. Prepare early: the best listings can be taken within hours during the peak start-of-term period (August to October).
Mistakes to avoid
- Sending blurry, expired or incomplete documents.
- Sharing sensitive documents before checking that a listing is genuine.
- Agreeing to pay a reservation fee before viewing the property or signing a lease.
